A family affair

Good design begins and ends with the home occupants and is about optimising the flow spatially, acoustically and visually to allow different age groups and needs to live in harmony in one space.

For this family needing more space for everyone to be together was important but equally they wanted a space that visually flowed from function to enjoyment, kept the harder working laundry and utility spaces tucked away yet close.

Using light for volume and balance provided an opportunity to pause spaces for reading, talking and being together and bi fold doors allows the space to completely open up in warmer weather.       

A deep overhang also means that the space can be open to the elements in inclement weather.
